Lukewarm, meaning moderately warm, is a portmanteau of luke and warm. Originally luke alone already meant moderately warm, and the suffix warm only added for further emphasis. This usage of luke can be found at least as early as 1200 in Layamon’s Brut.
Despite being semantically non-sensical, lukecool feels like it should exist and so is occasionally used. It is generally not accepted as a word.
